Personal Responsibility

Personal Responsibility

“And what part did you play?”

That’s a question a friend of mine asks after she hears the story of someone she's checked into her sober living home (a group home for people recovering from addiction). It gives the person an opportunity to reflect on their personal responsibility as to what got them there.

I think it’s a good question for all of us when we find ourselves in those situations we don’t want … a way to remind ourselves that we usually play a role (large or small, by what we do or don't do) in our circumstances … and a way for us to learn from that experience.

No excuses. No drama. No complaints.

“I attribute my success to this:
I never gave or took an excuse.”
